College of Holy Cross Wedding Ceremony - Cyprian Keyes Wedding Reception
Ahhh this 2! What a lovely couple! Everything planned so beautifully! Their ceremony was celebrated at the chapel of College Holy Cross, which is gorgeous and the choir (by their friends) was so amazing, one that I’ll keep on the top of my favorites ever! I also adored their first dance! Their wedding reception was held at the Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston MA… I never got teary eye by a first dance before by their dance seemed to be out of a Disney movie! Congrats Jason & Suzie, Its been an honor photographing your day!
And here is their story told by them:
“We met at the University of Wisconsin’s local student Catholic church, as we had both joined the choir there. It so happened the previous director had graduated, and so a call went out for directors and we both volunteered and became “co-directors in training”. Weekly music planning meetings meant that we got to know each other a bit better, meeting by the fireplace at the student union. We led the choir together for the next two years after which Jason graduated and moved to Redmond, WA to work for Microsoft. Suzie finished her PhD a year later and moved to Worcester, MA to teach at Holy Cross. We were good friends and stayed in touch; it only took a 3000-mile separation to make us realize we had missed out on something. We did the long-distance thing for a few years, until Suzie needed to switch jobs and then moved out to the West Coast in 2015. The proposal: Jason is a private pilot who flies small Cessna airplanes as a hobby. The Seattle area is a wonderful place to do it as you can easily hop to islands otherwise reachable only by ferry – perfect for a quiet weekend dinner. One island (Orcas Island) has a small town that we had been to a few times and walked along the little beach there. Orcas happened to be the first destination we went flying to when Suzie visited one summer.
Jason had picked the day in advance (a Wednesday) for the proposal but didn’t tell Suzie anything. After picking up the ring that morning, he called Suzie who was off work that day, saying the day was fairly quiet at work for him and Jason already had gotten most of what he needed done, so they could go flying. This was actually a lie – Jason was actually at home pacing praying she’d accept the dinner offer as otherwise everything was ruined. Jason “left” work and picked Suzie up around noon, and then we went up to the airport. We departed for the short flight to Eastsound, landed, and walked into town.
This was our first time being there during the weekdays when the shops are still open, so we walked around the shops a bit. In one of the shops there was some artwork that was an outline of the island with a little heart over Eastsound. Suzie commented how she thought we should get one (one day) for our home, entirely unaware how appropriate it would be as she was about to get proposed to there a bit later.
Jason planned on proposing before dinner, but was now starving so we ate at the Irish pub downtown as the nicer restaurant had a terribly long wait. We had dinner, then walked down to the beach in the town, where after some chatting Jason stood up, then got down on one knee, tried to remember what he had planned to say and proposed. Suzie promptly said yes (although a bit muffled given the hug!) and after some hugging and tears eventually realized she got a ring and then that was put on her finger. She called her sister and parents, told the news, and then Jason called his parents to tell them. Suzie’s parents had been asked a month prior, and Jason’s parents told two weeks prior, so they both knew this was coming but the actual date was a secret to everyone.”
